Day 3 - Trakošćan Castle-Winery wine tasting

After breakfast departure to one of the most beautiful locations in Croatia-Trakošćan Castle site. Trakošćan is certainly one of the most beautiful castles in Croatia. It is a 13th century hilltop castle and has been renovated in the neo-Gothic style in 1850s. Explore the museum inside and imagine how splendid it must have been to live there. Enjoy a walk in the park with a lake below the hilltop. After the tour your next stop will be one of the best wineries in Croatia-Vuglec Breg. Located in the middle of Zagorje region it produces sparkling wines with traditional champagne method, which have won numerous awards including Decanter, as well as other traditional wine sorts of continental Croatia such as Chardonnay, Riesling, and other indigenous varieties. Wine tasting, after the tour of the winery, will offer great introduction in the world of Croatian wines and will provide background in history of wine producing tradition as well as contrast to different varieties of coastal Croatia. For lunch traditional roasted duck and other local dishes will be served. Return to Zagreb in the evening.

There you will learn about specifics of regional wine varieties, visit the cellar, taste wines and then enjoy traditional lunch of carp on spit and other dishes. After lunch short visit to Batina-village on the Hungarian/Croatian/Serbian border with view of Danube river will be organized. After short ride and settling in your Osijek hotel guided tour of historic Osijek town will be organized with visit to famous Osijek cathedral and Tvrdja-fortification built in 18th century, once center of the town. Free evening.

Day 5 - Osijek-Vukovar-Ilok-Kutina-Zagreb

After breakfast short ride to nearby city of Vukovar. In recent history Vukovar has unfortunately been center piece of news reports during Croatian war of independence in the early 90s but now is becoming what is was before the war, center of economy for eastern Croatia as well as a great city to visit with its renovated castles like Eltz castle, tour of which will be organized as well as rest of Vukovar. After the tour your next stop will be nearby Ilok winery. This iconic winery located in the most eastern part of Croatia has been synonymous for Croatian wine production in European circles for centuries. Famous in Europe as the first winery that implemented domain bottled wines for centuries has carried the tradition of wine production with one of the oldest cellars in Europe. After visit to renovated summer house of Principovac which offers great vistas of nearby hills and vineyards, wine tasting will be organized in the old cellar.  After traditional lunch continue to your next stop, Kutina. Located half way to Zagreb visit the small town of Kutina and stop for another wine tasting of authentic local wine varieties. Arrival in Zagreb in the early evening.

This family run winery produces small quantities of premium wines and offer full range of styles from still, sparkling to orange wines. After wine tasting and tour of the winery fine dining experience will be organized in the restaurant run by the chef of the family, Bernard, who worked in some of the top restaurants in Europe including Osteria Francescana where he worked with Chef Massimo Bottura.  Food will be served in the restaurant or on the terrace of the restaurant within the winery, in the shade of hundred years old linden trees surrounded by the vineyards.

The courses are designed to faithfully represent traditional dishes from the region, but in a modern and creative way, with seasonal ingredients available from the property and from local producers.

Return to Zagreb in the early evening.

Day 7 - Zagreb - NP Plitvice - Opatija

In the morning you will continue your tour to Dalmatia and city of Zadar. On your way you will stop at NP Plitvice Lakes. Breathtakingly beautiful, Plitvice Lakes is UNESCO World Heritage site and oldest national park in Croatia. The waters flowing over the limestone and chalk have, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls. Walk on wooden bridges and drive on electric boats so that you can experience firsthand this nature's wonder. Lunch will be organized. After your tour you will continue your drive to Opatija. Arrival in early evening.

In the morning you will go and meet your private truffle hunter and his dogs, your companions in your treasure hunt in local woods. Experience firsthand what it is like to search for this amazing mushroom which enriches dishes to sublime quality. Later you will go to Motovun, overlooking the Mirna River valley, surely the most famous and attractive Istrian medieval town. This captivating hilltop town is one of the characteristic symbols of the Istrian peninsula. Motovun is surrounded by vineyards from which the finest Istrian wines, white wine Malvasia and red wine Teran, are produced. After tour of Motovun you will have your truffle-based lunch in traditional tavern. There you will taste scrambled eggs enriced with truffles, traditional Istrian homemade pasta "fuži “, beefsteak with truffles followed by dessert. Following lunch, you will visit Kozlovic Winery where you will have tasting of Istrian wine and olive oil. Kozlovic winery is one of the best in Croatia and offers great overview of Istrian indigenous wine sorts. Return to Opatija in the evening and free time.
